Hello everyone! Today, January 7th is Christmas on the Old
Calendar called the Julian Calendar. This present day is considered Christmas
day in several countries including Serbia, Russia, Ukraine, Macedonia,
Montenegro, Georgia and Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem (Israel). The
Orthodox Churches of these 7 countries still go by the Julian Calendar for all
their holidays.
If you are from these countries I hope you have a wonderful
Christmas! I know that people forget that different countries use different
calendars. Here in Manitoba January 7th isn't an official holiday but because
we have such a high Ukrainian population it is recognised. We call it
"Ukrainian Christmas" here in Manitoba.
From everyone at SDC:
გილოცავ შობა-ახალ წელს (Georgian)
Среќен Божик (Macedonian)
Счастливого рождества! (Russian)
Христос се роди (Serbian and Montenegrin)
Христос Рождається (Ukrainian)
חג מולד שמח (Israel)
Have a Wonderful Christmas to all the people on SDC that celebrate Orthodox Christmas!
