Hey guys,
Today I'm showing you a video of my technique drawing hair for Stardoll Graphics.
Hair is definitely one of the harder aspects in making graphics so along with the video here are my top tips when you're drawing hair!
1. Use a reference picture! One of the tricky bits is to make a natural flowing shape to the hair, for this I like to use basic hair shapes, the one I used was from i-dressup.com and I resized it to fit my doll. Using a reference will also give you a good idea of where to put the shadows, just make sure to add extra detail to make it more realistic.
2. Avoid using black/white on lighter hair colours! In the video I make the hairstyle blonde, one of the best ways to add depth to lighter hair is not use black or white for shading, instead (for darker colours) make the colour more saturated and then darken it! Do the same instead of white except instead of darkening it, make it lighter. This will give the hair more colour and if, like me, you're doing blonde hair, it'll give it a honey-like colour.
3. Make sure to add a few flyaways! Let's face it, flyaway strands of hair are just part of the package, add extra strands to make your hair appear more natural.
I hope this post helped you out with your graphics! Make sure to send them our way via the contact us feature!
