Today I'm going to show you my hair technique for graphics. My technique is a bit messy and it's not perfect but it is effective and fast!
(If you want to try this technique but don't know how to use gimp click HERE
The graphic itself isn't great but the instructions will really help!)
I start with a dark base colour a few shades darker than I want the completed graphic to be. After this I do a layer that I call "light". This layer is a shade or two lighter than the base and follows the shape and direction of the hair. Then I add in a dark layer in between the light layer.
The next layer "lighter" is almost the same as the second layer "light" but again is a shade or two lighter than the previous layer. I usually don't look at the base for this and go by what I think looks right (as you can see in the time-lapse of me working on a graphic).
That's basically it. I might add more light or dark layers with the airbrush tool in white and black or in a lighter/darker shade again for highlights/shading but only if I think it's necessary.
I hope this helps you in some way :) If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them below!
Love, Sarah
